Welcome to the Institute of Nuclear
Fuel Cycle
The interdisciplinary Institute of Nuclear Fuel Cycle (INBK) at RWTH Aachen University is concerned with the development of innovative, technical solutions for the entire nuclear fuel cycle.
Key activities of the institute are:
- Nuclear Supply & Disposal
Exploitation and treatment of raw materials, disposal and final storage of radioactive waste. - Characterization of Radioactive Waste
Development of methods for non-destructive testing of radio and chemotoxic contents in waste. - Transmutation
Treatment of radioactive waste to reduce the half life of long-lived radionuclides. - Nuclear Simulation
Numerical methods and simulation of nuclear processes in the field of nuclear fuel cycle, the reactor and safety technology.
The INBK deals with fundamental researches in the field of nuclear systems, fuel cycles and waste management as well as the development of innovative concepts for treatment and disposal in cooperation with the industry.
In addition, the INBK provides the master programme Nuclear Safety Engineering in order to educate highly qualified young professionals in the field of nuclear energy and nuclear fuel cycle. The programme is offered in cooperation with the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of RWTH Aachen, the Research Group for Simulation in Nuclear Engineering and the Research Center in Juelich.
